The rise of Arkturus Mengsk in he surprisingly rich start craft universe. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Im also more keen to see how they develop his son’s character Valerian from here and through the upcoming sequels to the game. The book was fairly well written but he isnt one of my favourite characters in the story so it was a little tedious trying to get through this book but was still keen to find out how he got there.
While the structure of the book made the pacing a little awkward, and had me wondering whether it was worth mensk emotionally invested in any cha The changes in perspective made this a fun book to read, not just in a recreational manner, but to a small extent as an intellectual activity.
I enjoyed Graham McNeill’s worldbuilding and the contrasts between Korhal, Umoja, Tyrador IX, and the various points around the Koprulu sector where Arcturus and his marines get deployed. This book drags all the way to the end, with too much descriptions, uninteresting action and long dialogues. If the primary goal of novelizing Starcraft backstory is to expand the Starcraft universe, why write a novel that makes that universe feel small?

It’s a story of growing and learning and making mistakes, as well as the legacy of family, and it was interesting to see where all that is Mengsk actually came from — and what it led to.
The core of the story is good, because this is Starcraft after all, but too much time is spent getting from one point of the story to anothe This mwngsk is simply too long. I enjoyed Graham McNeill’s worldbuilding and the contrasts between Korh I, Mengsk bridges the gap between the first and second StarCraft games and spans much longer than the typical book set in this universe, going through three generations of Mengsks – Angus, Arcturus one of the Big Bads in the game and finally, Valerian, who was by far the most interesting of the three. Being able to occasionally ask “who is speaking” and having to think back through multiple transitions and narratives shifts provided a sense of pleasure that I did not expect to find in a game-inspired fiction.
In regards of characters, everybody in the original games, StarCraft and Brood Warmengzk some sort of distinctive appeal about them whether they be the enigmatic alien Protoss or their ravenous kindred, the Zerg Swarm mmengsk those Terran castaways caught-up meddling in between. Terran part of the old StarCraft campaign.
If you expect swift actions full of rampageous monsters, this book is not for you. A surprisingly-compelling and deep portrayal of the old adage “like father, like son”, McNeil’s chronicle of the grand enemy of Blizzard’s universe is a page-turner.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this, but it was fantastic. Essentially, he was my favorite Terran character. So be emngsk, he might bring out sometimes his share of older and heavy duty titles alongside the newcomers.
