It felt disconcertingly like… a family reunion. Books by Anne Tenino. The divisions of the states, while I’m sure has been done before in other media, seemed fresh to me, and I thought it was executed well.

One of the protagonists lived in a 2-bedroom apartment. We are told the US is split up into red states and blue states.

And major props to having a MC with a prosthetic leg. I feel pretty conflicted about this one. This story was so easy to follow, it was like I was watching a movie. But I loved the story of James and Matt and I really enjoyed the humor interwoven throughout. It is tough to balance SF and romance in such a book, especially in one published by Dreamspinner. I admit having to read a few things one too many times before coming to grips with this world but I got there in the end … I think. I thought it was a brilliant concept. A few tenio quibbles, which bring my score to 4. She was an entertaining addition to their gang: Matt takes the contract anyway and it just gets all screwed up annne there. So, when the book starts, Matt pretty much hates James after 81 away from each other for years even though he still lusts after him ;-P There were some really funny scenes in this book that had me either laughing or smiling throughout the whole story.

I guess I was hoping for more nuance, and as the title seemed to promise, more shades of gray.
