Book Review: Before Midnight by Cameron Dokey

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. I didn’t expect it. Nothing stood out and I did not feel a real reason to keep on reading until the end other than just to finish it. This collection includes a retelling of Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Mulan and man they were all so different and so creative!

I love these re-tellings! Extremely wary was I of this one. The story begins in France, where a nobleman by the name of Etienne de Brabant is devastated over the death of his wife after the birth of their daughter.

Before Midnight: A Retelling of Cinderella

Cameron has one husband and three cats, and is the author of over a dozen young adult novels. However, we have a twist in Cendrillion.

This Mulan had a very different home dokeg than the Disney movie, and dojey was a girl determined to be herself, which included knowing archery, reading and writing and even some sword play – but to learn those things from her best friend, Li Po, she also had to master the more feminine arts as well – and she did. I enjoyed almost every moment and I’m very happy to add this collection to my collection.

I think one of the things I liked most about this book was seeing the interactions between the characters. The way that Rapunzel came to Melisande and her name was new while staying within the fairy tale frame work.

I also loved that her stepmother was nice ccameron loving when she needed someone to love. I loved how she explained that both her and Jian’s heart beat as one.

I don’t even understand why she DOES keep it a secret, other than, “Well, I guess at this point, it would just be awkward to confess.

Along the Brandywine: Book Review // Before Midnight by Cameron Dokey

When an invitation to cameeon great ball reaches the family, La Cendrillon’s new stepmother will make a decision with far-reaching effects. By giving each character a new identity and a new background, it was easier to relate to the characters even though the stories are based around fantasies but instead of Cinderella having an evil stepmother in this book she has a stepmother who at first hesitates when it came to kindness but after learning about each others past they become closer.

I was really happy that in this twist, Cendrillon’s stepmother was actually nice. They are unused to being in such a remote location and Cendrillon tries her best to make them feel welcome and show them the joys of their home.

I think I like this story best out of the three, although I think this retelling still has potential to be further developed. The stepmother and sisters are way more interesting in this story and aren’t depicted as being dumb as most camern retellings make them out to be.

She was really caring, that she wanted to help Rue.
