Anyone looking for a good work on the history of mathematics could certainly consider Boyer’s seminal work, which is nowadays readily available in storla and third editions.

The upside is, makes me want to look into the archaeology of math, and if there isn’t such a field already, one should invent it. I really wish I was better at that, but I am working on it. Those without a math background can enjoy this quite well, but the more math background the better.
