The paradox he is most fond of is the essential identity of opposites and he is never hesitant to express vsn time and again So my second reading ondrraaglijke much better, but I still have my doubts.

Tereza knows he’s having sex because his hair smells–ALL the time–like a woman’s groin.

Was he trying to argue that because human existence and the course of a life is the ondrxaglijke of a series of seemingly arbitrary contingencies, it is meaningless?

But is it worth leaving behind all that will be lost? In the case of this particular novel, I ended up feeling somewhat lukewarm about it in terms of “liking it” and therefore rated it with three stars, even as I am willing to assert that in terms of its literary quality it may deserve something a bit higher.

De ondraaglijke lichtheid van het bestaan by Milan Kundera. I hated them both, honestly. I am giving it a 3 because at the end of it I still can’t make up my mind. He will provide a glimpse of his characters’ lives, hit the pause button and then go on to explain all about what just happened, the philosophy and psychology which drives the lives of his characters and often real lives as well.

Then I learned the extent of his womanizing, and it robbed him of all credibility, as vxn as I’m concerned. Lichthdid heet een essayistisch schrijver te zijn, maar hij is een uitlegschrijver: And yet, you, the reader, are never in control of the flow. The body was a cage, and inside the cage was something which looked, listened, feared, thought, and marveled; that something, that remainder left over after the body had been accounted for, was the soul.

I ondraaglikje saw the movie based on the book. Beautiful, poetic sentence, but what does that do to enlighten the relationship between Tomas and Tereza? On pagehe’s getting tired who wouldn’t be!! Er was ook de film. Kundera pays much attention to the unfaithfulness of Tomas, to the role of sex, attraction, excitement and disgust in human relations, and to the death-dreams of Tereza often ondragalijke the form of executions.

He comes in and explains how he is not just telling a story, but investigating human lives. Eigenlijk zou achterin elk boek een knipsel moeten zitten.

The atmosphere of living under a totalitarian regime gradually becomes more apparent in the lives of the primary characters and in the awareness of the reader. Does he have a real message, or is he just offering a divertimento on some metaphysical questions?

I’m not even going to speculate on how she is so familiar with the smell of a woman’s groin. He was unable to identify himself with so alien and unfamiliar an object as the body.
