Well, along comes The Diamond of Darkholda book that relies fully on the developed plots, character relationships, and that same “everything will happen to Lina and Doon only, no one else ever does anything interesting” device that carries this series.

So far, she has written four novels, six books of nonfiction, and quite a few essays and stories. What terrible secrets now lurk in the dark? Many years later, after new cities have been built using solar power, one of their descendants views the now-fragile pictures drawn by Lina as a girl in Ember and notes how strongly they resemble a world she didn’t live to see but nonetheless helped create.

This is not really problematic per se, but definitely does not add more flavor to the tale.

Book 1 combined adventure and philosophy, while book 2 leaned more heavily on the ideas and allegory, and less on the action. In some parts, dkamond the wolves attacking, it felt like she added unnecessary action. I was just ready for it to be overwith, to be honest. But it’s also the most satisfying thing she knows how to do. I find it easier to enjoy a book if you can relate to it.
