Saberhagen served in the [[U. A decade and change later, I During high school, I worked at a used bookstore, where I would often shelve the fantasy and science fiction, since it was a favorite of mine. I like stuff that’s intricate and pulls you into a world.
Matthew rated it it was ok Jan ebrserker, But the humans have develioped a trick of their own: This sees Karlsen, the hero of humanity, the free of the Berserker war, stuck in a hypermassive gravitational pull from what is essentially a black hole. I bought Berserker Man on a whim, without any idea it was part of a larger series and having never heard of Saberhagen, and I came daberhagen so enamoured with the story that I hope I can pick up some others in the series.
In some ways, this is the best story to end the compilation, with the man Karlsen giving orders to visitors to his craft in order to determine whether they are human or Berserker-created.

For example, TV’s “Star Trek” and “Twilight Zone” are often more than a creepy story or a space alien story – they explore deep themes, such as “What is beauty? The aim for this story is clearly more in the vein of classic military science fiction, but the idea that someone has obtained a mind ray delivered in the first Berserker story has a nice poetry to it. The ending has a nice twist. The final few paragraphs are chilling and beautiful, and having lived alongside the main character for almost four stories now, the serialized nature of the stories is vindicated – all while keeping the episodes themselves in tact.
