McCloud does all of these things, but what makes the book work is that is that he’s always clear that he’s simply suggesting possibilities to the reader, that the final decision lies in the hands of the would-be comic writer, and that his reasons for drawing up lists or categorising things is to give the reader a flavour of comixs paths that other people have taken, just in case they may be useful. As I read, however, the decision to teach visually could not have been more justified. The rest is excellent for any writer who wants to take on the challenge of thinking I don’t do stars.

Even if you don’t actually want to “make” comics, this is still a great book to further your understanding of them. I feel that in reading this I have a better idea on how to do my Graphic Novel final. Being rather new to the comics world I only started reading them more steadily last yearI was eager to know more about the medium, and various online searches kept pointing to Understanding Comics Comocs Invisible Art also by Scott McCloud as a great starting point. If after this reading you still want to make comics you will have many more tools to do it. I highly recommend this comids for those interested in creating comics, especially if you’ve had no formal training.
