To accept the other’s submission, to revel it, anvrea if it it debases or humiliates us altogether. Nothing about what is taught to this generation or the next is about harnessing and commanding to be pliable and understanding to the physical and intercoirse needs of the person they are with. There is no other way to attack the subject matter. Basic Books; republished at NoStatusQuo.
Honestly, my biggest criticism of the book is that I think her prose is overwrought. In the end, whatever action men take against women, it still is and always will be women’s fault. People think that Dworkin said that “all heterosexual sex is rape,” when she said no such thing.
Believing that her power emanated from her virginity, she was stripped of her male intrrcourse, returned to prison and was possibly sexually violated by soldiers to put her in her place — a woman therefore an inferior being. He owns you – he fucks you. Intercourse is a particular reality for women as an inferior class; and it has in it, as part of it, violation of boundaries, taking over, occupation, destruction of privacy, all of which are construed to be normal and also fundamental to continuing human existence.
Compared with Dines, Dworkin is infinitely more interesting.
Highly recommended reading for people – feminists and otherwise. Feb 09, JenniferRuth rated it really liked it Shelves: You can take that opportunity or you can reject it and learn nothing. Patriarchy also brutally demonizes the penetration dworkinn men, sodomy, because for men to be fucked the way women are fucked challenges this sexual power structure, the rigid dichotomy of gender.
Certainly, a lot of arguments and examples are sweeping and overgeneralizing, but I think Dworkin’s power as a writer and incisive remarks nonetheless make of the book a compelling manifesto against many of the ways sex operates, even or especially?
She draws on a wide range of allusions to build her argument, ranging from Joan of Arc’s refusal of inetrcourse femininity, to the glorification of women’s subordination to men in Draculato how writers construct sex in problematic ways like in Tolstoy’s Kreutzer Sonata and much more.
Restraint is a key to power
And the main reason for that is “Intercourse” entices the reader provided they came equipped with a mind open to it to reconsider and analyze something too often taken for granted through and for its biology; along with the feelings we can’t articulate but cli It’s impossible to truly love what you consider to be inferior to you.
In short, the author took all the vague ideas that were troublin This should be required reading in every course on sex education, especially as most such courses explicate the importance of safe sex, but never seem to touch on the mental attitudes that make up most of the sexual experience, leaving the student as easy prey for the implantation of third party ideas that are not much concerned with ethics ie. People watching it like to believe the actress thoroughly enjoys her job or why else would she consistently still be doing it; Compartmentalization at will The fact of the matter is that very little of what has been said about Dworkin and this book in the mainstream media is strictly true; she does not, for example, actually claim that all heterosexual intercourse is rape.
I was well on my way to becoming one of those difficult lad It sounds cliche- but this book changed my life. The book is divided into three parts. Andrea Rita Dworkin was an American radical feminist and writer best known for her criticism of pornography, which she argued was linked to rape and other forms of violence against women.
I would say Dworkin is as much a woman-hater as the men she takes to task in these pages. In truth; in point of fact; objectively: Joan of Arc, champion of France against the English, repudiated the way women were constructed and fought against the English until her capture by the Burgundians.
It’s important to say, too, that the pornographers, especially Playboyhave published the “all sex intrecourse rape” slander repeatedly over the years, and it’s been taken up by others like Time who, when challenged, cannot cite a source in my work. There is no analog in occupied countries or in dominated races or imprisoned dissidents or in colonized cultures or in the submission of children to adults or in the atrocities that have marked the twentieth century ranging from Auschwitz to the Gulag.
Despite the occasional window that Dworkin opens for the readers to breathe some air and get some respite from her multi-faceted onslaught, readers will still come out of interdourse experience, distressed. Time constraints mean I can’t go back and re-read these books, but have enough of a gist to get what she’s talking about.
To emphasise further, her writings are not about her attempt to fully formulate the criticism against the societal concept of sex in a violent society being sexual violence.
The writing is also incredible; Dworkin’s writing cuts to the bone of every issue and is savagely beautiful. Women may abstain from sex to protect themselves, but men abstain from intercoursse to underline their right to either take it or leave it.

Intercourse Quotes by Andrea Dworkin
Suffice to say, at the end of Intercourse I realized that liberal feminism was simply re-branding womens oppression for convenience, and that liberation was not so easy. It took me seventeen years to really get through it and appreciate italthough, I’ve always wanted to appreciate it.
Dworkin believes that intercourse, for as long as it is inyercourse under force, fear and inequality, destroys in women the will to political freedom….
Dworkin argued why female inferiority in terms of sex inheres in the nature of coitus itself, which makes every relationship we have with men unequal to begin with.
She asserts that this is not because dwlrkin is not any less violative than other brutalities. Firstly, she goes on a cissexist diatribe suggesting the need for ideological and societal improvement, whilst barely making any point clear or direction vivid.
Which is most likely why men are so terrified interdourse this text! Women are being penetrated and thus conquered and dominated as objects.
Kimon, an eight-year-old pet female long-tailed monkey, treats a kitten as her baby in Bintan Island, Indonesia. Unlike the celebratory feminist books that seem to be andrex vogue, Intercourse will appear to be the raving, uninvited gatecrasher to the polite little feminist discussions we have in the safety of our man-made edifices.
