I have a hard copy of Noss’s grammar. Many students of the Thai language find that basic-level Thai is easy to pick up, but that the language becomes more difficult at higher levels. Just a moment refeeence we sign you in to your Goodreads account. If you are only getting one though, a less comprehensive but more accurate higbiie is ‘Thai – An Essential Grammar’ Routledge by David Smyth.
The book will be welcomed by anyone learning the language past the beginning level and is an essential reference work for libraries and universities with an interest in Asia.
Covers over separate topics, providing some sample sentences, in typical idiomatic spoken Thai, for each topic. Posted February 21, edited. Agree, Smyth is the way to go. Lastly, the fonts, especially for the Thai writing, are quite small.

I hestitate to call it a mistake as it doesn’t seem to be an error, but it seems to be a difference or omission in between the translations of Thai, English and Thai in the Roman alphabet. It’s probably designed for students of Thai who already know a great deal of the language and want to improve their understanding, because of several reasons: Looking for beautiful books? I can get them to display in both Firefox and IE, although downloading the ‘bundled’ dictionary doesn’t seem to complete in either browser.
No, this book does not deserve the title “Reference Grammar”, because it simply isn’t. This can be different from their value in written Thai, and in fact the authors change the Thai spelling of some words, given in their examples, to show the way the words are pronounced kao, for he, has a high tone in spoken Thai but rising tone in written Thai in cases where this differs from the written version!
Over the course of using the book, I have seen at least one discrepancy.

I have been fortunate to meet two co-authors in very different places, trammar with their help produce books on two very different topics: It should be welcomed by anyone learning the language past beginner level.

Also, explanations are missing, you won’t learn the order of words in a Thai sentence as I had actually hoped forthere are no explanations on the exact situations in what you have to use which different translations, apart from really really brief two-sentence statements that are very vague.
The authors analysed examples of spoken and colloquial Thai, then came up with their own examples to illustrate how sentences are built.
